The yak is the cornerstone of our diet and livelihood, but it is much more than that. It is a companion, and a symbol of our nomadic roots. Through these activities, yak herding and yak milking, guests can gain a glimpse into this essential relationship and experience life in Dorphu Valley as Tibetan nomads do.
Yak Herding
Yak herding is one of the daily practices of Tibetan nomadic life. For this activity, a nomad guide will lead guests in herding the yaks across the valley. We prepare all the necessary traditional tools, including the Urdo (འུར་རྡོ།), the Tibetan shooting sling, which is the main instrument used to guide the yaks and keep them together along the path.
After walking through the valley, at lunchtime, participants, together with the nomad guide, will prepare tea over an open fire and share a simple meal in the wild, watching over the yaks, just as nomads traditionally do.
Fee:
1-3 people 580 RMB each; more than 3 people 480 RMB each.
Yak Milking
Learn how to milk a yak using traditional methods and understand the patience and care this task requires. Milking takes place in the morning, before the yaks are released to graze freely. Traditional milking tools are prepared to allow guests to experience the authenticity of nomadic life. Dukmo (འབྲོག་མོ), a nomad woman, expert yak herder, and an icon of Tibetan nomadic culture, will demonstrate the technique, guide guests through the process, and help them practice their milking skills.
Fee:
1-3 people 430 RMB each; more than 3 people 380 RMB each.
Combined Experience:
These two activities can also be combined into a full experience (Yak Herding + Yak Milking).
Fee:
1-3 people 720 each; more than 3 people 630 each.
Keep in Mind: All yak-related activities depend on seasonal and environmental conditions. We deeply respect our animals and natural rhythms. In winter, milk production is limited, so availability cannot always be guaranteed.

Each experience includes: car ride to and from Norzi Homestay (Karsa Village), lunch, and entrance ticket to the scenic area.An English interpreter can be arranged for any Dorphu Valley activity for an additional fee, starting from 500 RMB. Please contact us for this service.
