Artisans’ Tours & Workshops

Menshod Town is renowned for its Tibetan handcrafts and holds a significant place in the history of Tibetan culture. Today, it continues to play a crucial role in both preserving and developing this rich heritage. In line with the mission of Norzi Home, we offer themed tours that guide our guests through the local artisan and artistic community, helping them discover the craftsmanship that defines our culture.

Currently, we offer three themed tours in established centers, each designed to highlight different aspects of local art and traditions. However, we encourage guests to explore freely among the more than 30 artisans and cultural centers, based on their personal interests.

As said, our mission is to serve as a bridge between the community and the world, so we are always open to requests and new ideas.

Female Leaders Tour

The Female Leaders Tour celebrates five artisan centers, each led by an inspiring woman: Dawa Drolma (Khyenle Arts Center), Sonam Yangchen (Yang Lek Shey), Tashi Choetso (Nayo Tsang Weaving Center), Tsering Tso (Nayo Oldhouse Pottery), and Pema Wangmo (Yuma Center). These talented individuals pour their hearts into their work, whether through crafting or managing their businesses.

This tour invites you to learn about their visions, their creations, and the meaningful ways they are shaping a brighter future. What makes their story even more special is that all of them have chosen to stay in Menshod, working together with commitment to enrich and strengthen the community for generations to come.

Walking-Distance Tour

This tour suggests you discover four artisan centers on foot, walking through the village. Within a maximum distance of 2.5 km from the homestay, walking along the river, you will enjoy the rhythm of life here, appreciate the architecture of traditional Tibetan houses, and meet pottery masters from two centers (Dzaken Tsang Pottery Center and Choephak Pottery Studio), thangka painters from Kunga Thangka Studio, and gold and silver filigree artisans from the Golden and Silver Filigree Studio.

This immersive cultural walk is designed to last approximately half a day and can be done on your own or with a guide. It is a great chance to explore local traditions while establishing a deeper connection with the environment and community.

Tibetan Healing Tour

This tour leads you to discover Sowa Rigpa, the “science of healing”, the Tibetan art of medicine born over a thousand years ago. You will visit two important centers where this knowledge is preserved and continues to develop: Be Dur Ye Incense, where natural herbs are transformed into incense, and the renowned Dzongsar Tibetan Hospital, a place of learning and healing with its medicine school, research center, museum, and factory.

In these two centers, you will get to know the wisdom of Tibetan medical philosophy, the deep connection between mind and body, and the ways in which nature plays an essential role in the healing process.

Explore Beyond the Listed Tours

Our town offers an extraordinary variety of artisans and traditional skills. From clothing tailoring to woodwork, from silversmithing to many other crafts, our community is extremely rich.

The three tours presented here are only the beginning. We are continuously working to design new experiences that include additional artisan centers, as well as home-based artisans who practice their craft within their own houses.

Although we are still in the early stages of expanding these itineraries, we warmly encourage guests to explore beyond the listed tours. We are happy to share further insights into other arts and artisans, and we can organize tailored visits based on your specific interests.

If there is something particular you would like to discover, we will do our best to make it possible!
